What is Tier 1 Training?
The Oliver Mcgowan Tier 1 Training course is a structured 1 hour introductory level course for all staff regardless of role. This webinar training course with Curve Learning is designed for staff who require awareness of autism, and learning disabilities.
Every member of your team needs to develop awareness and understanding needed to treat people with learning disabilities or autism with more confidence and support during interaction.
Not only can health and social care teams benefit from this training but it is also relevant for admin and reception staff, porters, catering staff, facility teams, HR teams and any member of staff who may interact with people with learning disabilities or autism.
The course covers awareness of how autism and learning disabilities are presented differently in different people, and why a one style only approach simply doesn’t work. Training involves understanding the basics of learning disabilities and autism too.
Person Centred Care
Person-centred care is covered too, which recognises the importance of how every individual has unique needs and preferences.
Reasonable Adjustments
The course involves learning about knowing what reasonable adjustments look like in practice and feeling confident in making these adjustments to support individuals.
Communication and Understanding
Developing effective communication techniques to communicate more effectively and understanding the different communication styles and sensory needs is important for any staff member. This is covered in the 1 hour course.
Reflection of Real Life Experiences
Reflecting on real-life experiences and perspectives are one of the most influential elements of the Oliver McGowan Tier 1 Training course. By hearing directly from people with lived experience, this brings real world insight to the learning, emphasising more genuine reflection and empathy.
