Our level 3 epilepsy awareness Train the Trainer course is designed for care staff to be the in-house trainer for their colleagues so they know how to recognise and respond to a general seizure. The course is focused on teaching the awareness of how epilepsy is diagnosed to trainers and thus trainers will be able to demonstrate the awareness of this knowledge when they train their teams.
Health and social care staff who know how to recognise and respond to general seizures through our training can make a real difference to their care teams who may have people in their care living with epilepsy. Having a confident, knowledgeable trainer in-house means knowledge is shared across your whole team.
During our level 3 course delegates will go beyond refreshing their own knowledge of epilepsy. You will learn how epilepsy is diagnosed and deliver the epilepsy awareness course with a view to using our training materials and knowledge in your own internal training afterwards.
You will receive tuition from our team of experienced Trainers, and every person attending is assessed in their own delivery.
Caring for people who have epilepsy is important and in-house trainers will help make sure every member of the team is aware of how to diagnose epilepsy and knows what to do. Care teams supporting people with learning disabilities, may be supporting people with epilepsy.
Care workers will need to be able to be aware and identify different types of general seizures, understand possible triggers, give the appropriate first aid and record seizures accurately.
The benefit for the trainer is a deeper awareness of epilepsy diagnosis, general seizures, first aid actions, along with the confidence and skills to plan a training session and deliver it to colleagues.
You will also gain access to our training materials, including trainer notes, presentations, a delegate workbook, videos to support delivery and certificate templates, with periodic material updates and ongoing support from our team of trainers.
An in-house trainer gives you the flexibility to train small groups as and when needed, including new starters and refreshers, and reduces costs by removing the reliance on external providers.
The course is designed to fit around busy rotas and care settings. This course can be carried out at our training offices in Wakefield or by video, and the course can also be delivered at your own premises.

• Identify the impact on the brain by understanding the associated signs and symptoms
• Identify different types of general seizures
• List the different triggers for general seizures
• Outline the challenges faced by individuals who may be living with epilepsy
• Understand the impact epilepsy can have on daily life
• Explain what treatments can be used for epilepsy
• Understand the awareness of how epilepsy is diagnosed
• Know how to record a general seizure and the first aid response
• Demonstrate effective first aid for seizures
