Course Description
The term Managing Behaviours that Challenge reflects the fact that some behaviours challenge workers, carers and parents. There is always a reason for behaviours that challenge, and in many cases, it's a way for a person to control what is happening around them. Health and social care workers must have the right knowledge and skills to help support these individuals. During the session, you'll cover the following:
  • What 'managing behaviours that challenge' means, and how it is caused
  • The different kinds of 'managing behaviours that challenge' and the effect they may have on the individual care
  • How a person's thoughts and external circumstances influence behaviour
  • Ways to assess the behaviour of somebody you are working with
  • How to identify 'managing behaviours that challenge' triggers and the best way to manage them
  • The clues to watch for when recognising escalation and how to use distraction and de-escalation methods
  • The do's and don'ts of 'managing behaviours that challenge' - key strategies to use in the moment
  • How to encourage and reward 'managing behaviours that challenge' - the techniques and tools available to you.
This half-day course comprises engaging activities with fellow learners (maximum of fifteen delegates). After taking the course, you'll be asked to complete a simple multiple-choice assessment. You will receive a certificate once you have passed the assessment.
