This course provides awareness of what it may be like to have visual and hearing problems and can help you know what to do to improve a person’s experience and how to communicate effectively. Communication is a vital part of your role as a carer; you may encounter some barriers that need to be broken down when dealing with an individual with these problems. This course provides all staff with the awareness surrounding these impairments and enables them to put this knowledge into practice within their work setting, allowing them to improve the lives of those they care for.

During the session, you’ll cover the following:

  • A comprehensive explanation of the terms used in describing low vision and deafness
  • The causes of low vision and sight loss
  • The causes of deafness and hearing loss
  • An overview of the range of assistive aids for low vision and hearing loss
  • Helpful insights into how staff members can help in the workplace.

The course provides staff with the awareness surrounding these impairments and enables them to put this knowledge into practice within their work setting, allowing them to improve the lives of those they care for.

This course is available as a half or full-day course. It comprises a mixture of engaging activities. Once the course is completed, you will be asked to complete a simple multiple-choice assessment. You will be given a certificate to acknowledge the passing of the course.
