Overview

Stomas are used to support bowel output, with waste being collected in a stoma pouch attached to the abdomen.
Different types of stomas differ in the way they connect to the human body and how they collect waste.
This course is designed to support staff with the understanding of what a healthy stoma looks like, the problems that could be experienced, and how to effectively change a stoma pouch.
This course takes 30-45 minutes to complete and comprises a mixture of engaging activities with theoretical knowledge, enhancing learners’ understanding of the different types of stomas and the individualised safety precautions that are to be taken when supporting an individual requiring a stoma.
Upon completion of the course, there will be a multiple-choice assessment and once achieved, a certificate of acknowledgement will be presented.
