Moving & Handling Refresher

As a health or social care worker with individuals in your care, you will be called upon at some stage to assist people to move when they cannot manage to do so on their own. This course equips you with the confidence and all you need to know to help yourself but also the individuals you support.

Moving and assisting people may need not be a worrisome aspect of your career as a health or social worker. Although there are rules and regulations surrounding it, there are some very clear, simple ways for you to make sure that you are performing your role to the utmost of your ability, and avoiding bad practice.

This course emphasises the need for accurate risk assessments in the workplace, as well as allowing you to practically demonstrate the use of moving and handling equipment. When you can see what and where the obstacles are, you will be in a better position to anticipate where your support will be needed.

With your new knowledge on the physiology and anatomy of the spine, you’ll be able to decide which lifting manoeuvres you need to use ahead of time that will be of the most help to those you support.

During the session, you'll cover:
Have an understanding on the laws that govern manual handling

Describe the effects poor moving and handling may have on our spine and discs

Discuss risk assessments on both a formal and informal basis

Have knowledge around the equipment we may come across within our workplace

Demonstrate the safe use of manual handling equipment.

This training is available as a full or half-day course and comprises practical work and theory shared with fellow learners. You’ll be asked to complete a simple multiple choice and practical assessment after you take the course. You will receive a certificate once you have passed both assessments.
