Sensory Awareness

Learners will need to complete our training skills for trainers day before they attend any of our Train the Trainer course days. Please note that this is only compulsory if you have never attended one of our Train the Trainer course days before. You do not need to complete our training skills day if you have already attended.

This course provides health and social workers with an increased awareness of what it may be like to experience visual and hearing problems, and so be able to understand how to communicate more effectively with those individuals.

Communication is a vital part of your role when working in health and social care, and you may encounter some barriers in the course of your work such as hearing and visual impairments. This course provides all staff with the awareness surrounding these impairments and enables them to put this knowledge into practice within their work setting allowing them to improve the lives of those which they care for.

During the session, you'll cover:
A comprehensive explanation of the terms used in describing low vision and deafness
The causes of low vision and sight loss
The causes of deafness and hearing loss
An overview of the range of assistive aids for low vision and hearing loss
Helpful insights into the ways in which staff members can help in the workplace.

This full or half-day course comprises an engaging mix of activities with fellow learners (maximum fifteen delegates). You’ll be asked to complete a simple multiple-choice assessment after you take the course. You will receive a certificate once you have passed the assessment.
